Parakeets will breed year round if their environment is maintained warm enough. And there is sufficient light.

The nest box should be fitted with a round bottom so the eggs will navigate to the middle.

Parakeets are a community bird, in that they won't breed if they haven't got a society around them. Many are that way such as Finches etc.

Know also that if the male is 'rejected' that if you pair up to a certain female, she will kill it. Usually by biting off it's head.

Your aviary should be airy, light, and above 80degrees full time.

Since Africa is their native land.

Mites will be your biggest problem.

Food will be no 2 in problems and cost. Diseased food can't be detected unless you get anthrax. Watch for fleas.

We have some good answers. My specifications for breeding are:

For time of year: My budgies (kept in large outdoor aviaries in mild climate)

prefer November and December with the longer days for breeding. I have attempted summer breedings, but where I live it is too dry and it is difficult. I assume that indoor breeding would be easier, but that is not an option for me.

For everyday food, budgies need a plain seed mix, kept in sealed containers so you don't get bugs. Also supplement millet, and very well washed lettuce on occasion. During breeding, for extra health I feed canary seed (along side the normal) or oat groats, which are whole oats. All of this should be available in a bird store.
