For nests, many different sizes are recommended. Always use a nest box, budgies nest in cavities. Also, do not use bedding, as this makes dust and it can be ingested by the chicks. Parakeets will hollow out the bottom of the nest box (a good box will have the beginnings of a hollow on the bottom) for a nest. They don't need nest material.
