why didnt they attack me2007-11-24 17:26:57

i was in a exotic bird store in delran new jersey and the birds were out the cages like for petting and stuff! why didn't they attack anyone? lol! i was scared as hell!

Answers:

The shop owner wouldn't let birds that were known to be aggressive out of their cages while customers were around, for liability reasons, anyway. Some birds are, but it's because they aren't well socialized, or they're moody.

maybe it was because they didn't have a reason to attack you or maybe they aren't trained to attack people

They are trained and are accustomed to people. However, that doesn't mean they won't bite if you get too close!!

That would have been a little crazy! I think I would have been a little freaked out too. Bet the floors were a mess! Maybe they didn't attack you because you don't look like Alfred Hitchcock.

Contrary to what you may have seen on TV, birds don't just attack people for no reason. Most birds are afraid of humans so they fly away while those that don't, like the ones you saw, are accustomed to being pet. Think of a hamster, for example-- when you first get one, it's afraid of you and may even bite you if you're not careful. Keep petting it, holding it, and caring for it, though, and it'll get used to your presence.
