why do pigeons explode when they eat rice
This silly myth pops up periodically, and it is absolutely unfounded, Many migrating ducks and geese depend on winter-flooded rice fields each year to fatten up and build strength for their return trek to northern nesting grounds.
Uncooked, milled rice is no more harmful to birds than rice in the field,
It's a myth. There is no reason why birds, including small songbirds, can't eat rice,

i don't think they do but baby chicks explode after they eat coco puffs. found that out the hard way when i was 6 :(
try bread soaked in bicarbonate of soda. BOOM!

As someone else said, it's bread soaked in bicarbonate of soda. Someone once got arrested for it, I say blow em all up - I hate pigeons.
they dont explode but can kill them as the rice is dry and when reaches stomach it starts to swell with moisture (as it does when you boil it) and then blocks digestive tracts they cant now eat and effectively die from malnutrition

That is just totally mint! Exploding birds! can hardly type here but jeez I'll give them a wide field of fire if they are suicide bombers!
I am not sure, but, it is probably the same reason that makes seagulls blow up and burst after feeding them bread and baking powder.

I thought it might possibly be something to do with them storing the rice in their crop - and then if they drank water.
I doubt rice will do that to any bird,
