why is my cockateil biting his feet
I have a pet cockateil and the past two days i have noticed quite a bit of blood on his perches and it has got worst today is this normal? what can i do to stop it? thanks
Answers:Two things may be wrong. First how long are his talons? Caged birds do not get the necessary wear of their talons and they continue to grow to the point where they can not walk or hold a branch correctly. You may need to trim them just like you would your finger nails but you need to leave the correct amount of nail. Get a book on raising cockateils and check to see if it has a section on triming the talons. If not ask your vet how to do it or have him do it. Takes about 15 minutes of wresling with your bird but it is pretty simple.
Second he may have a mite or fungus infection.. For those you need to take him to the vet.
Hope this helps.
No this is dangerous for the bird and he needs to go to the vets at once. Stop what you are doing and phone around for an avian vet and take him therer ot once.
maybe he is stir crazy cuz he cant fly anywhere
The bird has mites,he needs to go to the vet now.! Because they
are very itchy, and he could really hurt himself. Birds just don't know any better.
its nails might be to long you might want to cut them down its bothering it thats probly why
