No, rice just kills them. if you want them to explode you have to feed them alka-seltzer tablets, and it only works with seagulls (so far as I know).

That's a contemporary myth, but feeding them anything they wouldn't normally eat in the wild is bad for them, and considering how most rice is processed, well perhaps no one should eat it.
