8 Year Old Female Cat Recently Poohing and Peeing in House2007-11-25 11:29:30

I have two cats...both fixed and have had them both going on 10 years. Both are now primarily indoor cats...I live in the Florida, too many critters out there. Both typically use the kitty liter box without fail. He was recently diagnosed with a thyroid issue and he is more aggressive, chases her, plays hard with me, bellows in the night, etc. When he gets in these moods she stays out of his way. She is a big cat for her size...close to 20 lbs.she started not using the kitty liter box sporadically, and it started with pooh in the kitchen, washroom, dining room, clothes closet. Now she is starting with urinating outside the box...urintated in the dining room this AM. I took the cover off the box and I thought that solved the problem but seems to work only sporadically. This was the final straw and why I am writing.WHAT'S UP?

Hmmm. First, vet check for illness.

Once that's ruled out, the possibilities are: she's responding to the behavioral change in your other cat.

Do you have more than one box, in separate places?

Could be he's ambushing her when she's in box.

Sounds to me like your other cat needs his dose upped- plus he should be taking meds two times a day, not once.

Usual dose is 5 mg a.m., 5 mg p.m.

It really sounds like she's finding it hard to live with the other cat.

Wow... you do have issues. Have you tried another litter box away from where the male uses his? Maybe it is a passive /aggressive issue with the two. Try getting her a new box and put her in a area by herself for a day or two. DO NOT let the boy in with her. Let her get used to HER TERRITORY for awhile. Make sure she is healthy also. Most cats will something out of the ordinary to let you know hey I am not feeling well. Have you changed the brand of litter or their food? Maybe, last but no least with the health issues with the other cat, maybe she is a little jealous and is seeking attention..just like kids.
