Can someone tell me what can help this cat2007-11-25 11:45:59

She has a litter but isn't caring for them. She is attacking everything that is 5 ft away from her (even if you are just walking by and not paying her any mind) and isn't eating much. Basically she has gone all psycho. I know most cats do but this is her 3rd or 4th litter (its my friend's queen) and has never done this before. In fact when the kittens were born in another litter and about 3 days old, she let me come up to her and move them. Now shes even going up to people (who are not bothering her or even near her) and attacking them.

So can anyone give me a hint on whats wrong?

Is it treatable while nursing?

Or does someone have an idea on what my friend can say to her mom so I can care for the kittens and mom can just chill out (or be put to sleep if that is a must)

My advice is if you are sure she isn't caring for them take the babies and hand rear, there is a powdered milk you can buy from the vet called Kimikat it is quite expensive but very good and last ages if you follow the instructions, with regards mum being destroyed absolutely no need whatsoever! Once you have taken the burden of the babies and after that many litters who can blame her acting the way she is! I think mum and babies should go to the vets for a check up if it's so out of charachter for mum to behave like this have you thought maybe she hasn't passed something she should have after the birth? Check her nipples if you can maybe she is suffering, I know one thing she most definately needs neutering! In most cases a vet won't neuter until mums milk has dried up but in extreme cases as this one seems to be they will do so. Contact a local cat protection for more advice and quite possibly a voucher that will pay for the cost of getting her neutered if it is a struggle with money that is putting her owners off. Please don't let them destroy her once neutered and free of her burden you will find she is a loving cat. Fingers crossed all is ok x

3rd or 4th litter?! POOR CAT! tell your "friend" that the cat needs to be spayed
OMG! You cannot be seriously thinking about putting the mom cat to sleep! I don't know what has happened with her but she really needs to be spayed and a proper home found for her if you all think putting her to sleep is a solution. Care for the kittens till they are 8 weeks old then adopt them out and get mom fixed. She should be fine after that.
She might not caring for the litter becuase people touched them when they were too young or somthing is wrong with them. Stray cats and some house cats dont bother with the litter if it has the human scent on it when they're really young(they might think that it isnt theirs who knows)
