Can the animal control
take my cat away if he is an outside cat? He is usually out at night and sleeps in the house all day but he's outside in the day to. I live in springfield missouri and i was wondering if they could legaly take him away. Please dont yell at me for having an outside cat i dont want a lecture I want an answer to my question.
Answers:as long as he has a collar or a micro-chip that will tell the animal control who is owner is and where he lives then I doubt they can do much more than pick him up and call you in to come get him...however you should have the proper paper work in line to show that he has had all his shots (including rabies) in case he does get picked up...
in my area animal control won't pick up an animal unless someone calls in with a complaint or a concern [for example-if the cat looks malnourished, is mating with someone else's cat (or fighting with their pet), is meowing loudly and disturbing people's sleep, is destroying someone property (or even just using their lawn as a potty)...unless something like one of those above situations happens or is happening then animal control probably won't even be called about your cat]
hope this helps
ps...if animal control does pick up your cat and calls you in to pick him up then they will most likely fine you for the "service"
your best bet is to call your local animal shelter and ask to speak with someone about the laws for loose cats...
