cats have helped humans and society. In Egyptian times cats were left to roam at will , as they do now. cats were companions and helped get rid of mice and insects that ate wheat. Without wheat, life for everyone would have been even harder than it was..it gave a stable diet , as in bread and was very important for employment and trade, with Rome etc. and the then known world.

I read some were that in Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs, to be unkind to a cat could result in the death of the offender.. cats were protected because , perhaps they helped protect society and life. They were respected.

I know this does not answer your question, completely, but perhaps the importance of the cat as God like might be seen from its value.

From a personal standpoint it kept away disease and helped sustain life .This, along with a public thankfullness for the creature that co-existed with man as it does today. May have elevated it to a position of God like .It co-existed.with ..love.

yeah in ancient Egypt before a million of years ago, the ancient Egyptians thought that the cats were sacred animals. Because the god Re had a cat name Konshi it said that Konshi saved the Egyptians from the great flood(you know when the rain camed down and it flooded for forty days). Konshi saw a vision what will happen and told her king by meowing sweetly. After the Pharaoh Re died he told his slaves and people to make Konshi the chooser. Then Konshi choosed the wises and brightess boy to be the next Phaoroh. That is why.
