Yes. I don't THINK they do, it's been proven. But cats can also purr when they're scared or in pain.

Although no-one has figured out by what mechanism the sound of the Cat's purr comes from, I don't care.

My cat purrs when she is happy, when she sees me, when I talk to her, while she is eating.. various happy times.

She meows when she wants something - a god awful noise normally.

The confusing one is when she meows whilst purring, or when she is lying on the floor, belly in air, trying to look cute, purring her heart out cos she wants my dinner..

Yes, it's lovely to get a purr, especially from a cat that you have been trying to tame & make confident. That 1st purr is always a thrill. Also very sothing & relaxing to have a purring cat beside you.
