OK this is not consistent with what I have heard about cat food

I have heard that you cannot get a high quality cat food at the grocery store. Well I went to Petsmart today and bought some canned kitten food for my 7 month old cat. I ended up buying Authority wet food. It has 11% crude protein in it that was the highest protein amount that I found there. I know cats need a lot of protein and that should be the first ingredient on the label. Well when I brought it home and looked a the Purina wet food I had been buying for him the Purina said it was 16% crude protein. So the Purina brand had more protein. So which is better then. It looks like the stuff I got at the grocery store from Purina is better at 16% protein.

Pet Smart is really not the best place to shop. They tend to carry the same brands that are in the grocery stores. The national advertising that all the poor pet food companies use makes them high-demand items and Pet Smart will carry them too.

I can't find anything about the Authority as I don't know the manufacturer to look at their web site.

High protein is not the issue - QUALITY protein is. All canned foods range around 10% protein. Ash content is not somethig to worry about - all the commercial producers are looking to that issue and keeping the ash content low.

Top quality canned cat food I have been using lately are: Wellness, Natural Balance both of which I have found in my local pet discount store. If you are on the East coast you might look into Instinctive Choice which is produced by healthypetnet.com. That's a company in Florida and shipping charges to me in CA are just too high.
