Ok, if my kitten cant walk2007-11-25 12:24:50

Thanks for all your quick responses to my question on "My kitten can't walk" if this is viral or infected when it was a fetus is there any chance of it affecting my other cats even though they have all there shots updated?

Answers:

It's only going to cause lameness during gestation. It will cause severe illness in kittens under 6 weeks of age. A vaccinated Older cat (over a year) should not get very sick from it, but could have a transient infection.

The biggest concern for your older kitties is the upper respiratory complex that young orphan kittens are carrying including clamydia and rhinotracheitis. These can almost always cause sinus infection and illness in cats. Please keep your kitten isolated by at least 2 doors and don't let it get nose to nose with other cats until you decide what to do.

Don't worry, the chances of your older, vaccinated kitties getting sick are low. You can still take care of the kitty, but don't take chances if you don't intend to keep it.

Definitely check with your vet- poor kitty- I feel bad for him/her. Also, see if there's some sort of compensatory device it can use to get around.

They cannot catch distemper as long as they have been vaccinated for it. Otherwise it is very catchy.

my cat had a kitten like this and the vet said that it was it's nerves and that it would always be like that. i had to have it put to sleep, they said there was no hope. but it isn't contagious.
