Okay so my 8 week old kitten with the shaking tail that sticks straight up in the air pretty much al2007-11-25 12:24:52

Will not stop meowing. I put toys out for him, I have food out, and I play with him when I can. Even when I play with him, he meows and purrs at the same time. Is he just really really homesick for his family? He has only been with me for 4 days, is this normal? If so, when should I expect this behavior to stop?

People who say an 8 week old kitten is about to spray know absolutely nothing about cats! He's too young.

The tail in the air means he's happy to see you. The meowing could be that he's lonesome (the person who said it's a big scarey world out there for a kitten in a new home is right). He may also be "talking" to you. Some kitties do that, and it's adorable. Some breeds are known for this, while others just mostly talk softly to communicate with you.

Give him a little time - it won't be long before he forgets about his Mama and siblings and directs all his attention to you. It sounds like he's already getting there with the purring and the tail in the air. The meowing will calm down (I had a *too* young kitten as a child and all she did for a while was meow). If you're lucky, he'll continue to communicate with you and keep up that purring! :-)

Make sure you get him his shots & have him neutered as early as possible, and you'll have a good furry friend for many years to come. :-)

Hi yes this is normal for a kitten to do.he's looking at you as he would his mom & all the verbal is his need for your contact with him & remember it's a big scary world when you fisrt leave home & for such a little guy it's a bit trauma.He just wants your reassurance & he really needs you right now.Regards Jake
