Our local SPCA has only 20 cats and kittens waiting for homes It is a NO KILL SHELTER Shouldnt they
Help other municipalities with their overflow of unwanted cats??
The SPCA services two small towns and a large rural area and it is well supported by the communities. In the past they have accepted overflow dogs from puppy mill closures, shouldn't they do the same for cats.
I have cats and dogs so I love both. I just don't understand why cats are more disposable.
Answers:The shelter I work at take the overflow from a couple of other shelters - dogs AND cats. A couple of weeks ago we took delivery of 12 cats and a mother and her four kittens. There were some dogs as well, but because I am in the cattery I cant give you those figures.
We are also no kill in so much as every cat and dog that is re-homable is kept until it has a home to go to. The only ones humanely put to sleep are wild ferals (cats) and the very sick with no hope of recovery (cats and dogs).
Seems we in Australia do treat cats and dogs with the same respect and equality.
Well i was thinking the same thing you did i am actually hoping that the SPCA would help cats all over as well that have no space in other shelters for a while..
I think its because people here need to realise to neuter and spay there cats and kittens at a young age cause cats breed more than dogs do so i guess thats why people dispose them more as you have said..
I love cats and dogs too i dont see why it should be any different im with you on this one.. i will find out more from the SPCA and other shelters around here to find out but im sure all of them are NO KILL SHELTERS but it is good to support them as well and sponsor hope this helps..
