Outdoor cat poops inside when we let her in Help2007-11-25 12:24:59

I have kind of a strange question. When we let our outdoor cat in the house she nearly always goes to the bathroom (poop) right beside our toilet. She's 4 months old and has been coming in since birth, it has only been in the last two weeks that she has been messing inside. My mom suggests just not letting her in anymore, but I think we need to teach her how to be inside without messing. We've had the kitten's mom for a year and she is inside often and has NEVER gone potty in the house. Any suggestions?

If you are letting the cat in - you have to have a cat litter box, put the litter box in the bathroom, the cat isn't stupid he is trying to tell you he/she needs a cat litter box, by going to the bathroom beside the toilet . Cats are NOT dirty by nature, and they are very intelligent.I have a question. Why have a cat if it is strictly an outside cat?

actually..you can literally potty train the cat to use the toilet. It sounds like the kitten is close to being able to do this. My friend did it accidently by placing the litter box in the shower.

You might also want to put a small litter box next to the toilet, then start moving it closer to the back door.

Maybe she should go to the vet since this is a more recent thing. They usually don't do things like that unless there is something wrong. Take her just to make sure! Good Luck!

Put the litter box next to the toilet. Also it is easy to make a in-out cat from an inside cat but hard to make an outside cat into a good inside cat. Try keeping her inside for awhile. Confine her to the bathroom with the litter.

my cats r both outdoor animals,but only one comes in we had this problem so what we did was put a cat tray with paper or litter in it by a corner of the room and they will use it,as soon as i did this he always uses it now

Have you tried putting a litter box next to your toilet? If not, try it. Also, maybe the smells are still there from her marking her territory. Try using Natures Miracle. If she is an outdoor cat, make sure she is spayed, if shes not already. Also put her on flea preventative as well. I hope this helps some and good luck
