Persian-GrayTabby Question 1

Persian-GrayTabby Question 12007-11-25 12:25:03

How often should I bathe my 3.5 month old persian tabby kitten?

Answers:

Once a week is too often, you will deplete her natural skin oils. Also remember that bathing a persian is not an easy task like bathing a common short-hair cat. The hair is very fine and takes ages to dry. Unless you blow dry her properly using a hairdry on low heat kept at least 30cm away from her skin, or better yet, use an animal dryer, the fur will get easily tangled, dull and curly.not at all the way its supposed to look.

Tangles are a persian's worst enemies as they can cut the blood supply and cause serious damage to your cat. Instead of bathing, make sure you're brushing your cat properly and DAILY using first a comb and they a wire brush, brushing the hair against the growth. Your cat will get used to this and eventually it will become a tolerable and quite pleasant experience.

Cats are not meant to smell of flowers, they're animals not toys. Taking a cat 2-3 times a year to get a proper bath and drying at a groomer's should be enough if you brush her properly everyday. If you plan on showing you'll have to bathe her more, but definitely always at a groomer's.

Good Luck with your new kitten

WEll when its dirty.
Unless your kitten get real filthy or has alot of fleas most cats keep them self clean enough. Other wise monthly is Ok with mild shampoo
Cats clean themselves. If you bathe her, she will actuyally smell worse, because you will stop the self cleaning effect. My cat smells great and he only licks himself. He spreads the smell of my hands (they smell like soap, lotion, etc) on his entire body when he licks himself after I pet him).
Why does she smell bad? What has she gotten into. If she is washing herself she should have a natural "clean cat" smell. This is not like flowers or fruit but it is pleasent. Remember that cats have a very sensative nose. What smells good to you, may reek to her.

Long hairs do need a little help with the grooming though. One bath in the spring, to loosen up and get rid of the winter coat and one bath in the fall to make room for the winter coat should do it.

Don't let her get chilled.

I would say no more than every three months otherwise her skin will become too dry.
