Please, help I just found out that my cat has a huge tick on his neck, how do i take it out
i have a spray against ticks and i heard something like you should pour oil on the tick so that he comes out to breathe?
what should i do now??
Answers:When is tick is found embedded in the skin, use a fine pointed tweezers at the point of attachment, and grasp the tick head firmly. Remember to wear latex gloves when doing this.
Using slow, steady, and firm traction, pull the tick straight out from the skin.
It is critical to NOT squeeze the tick body at any time -- this can inject more potential pathogens in to you or your pet while the tick is embedded.
Cleanse the skin with mild soap and water.
If a small part of the tick breaks off, you can try to remove it as you would a splinter, but it is probably best to leave it alone. The body will 'eject' it in time.
Place the tick in a jar of alcohol, noting the date, in case of future illness. Tick identification and location of tick infestation will be important.
Safer to go to vet, but if you try, My family would take a stick match, light it, and then blow it out. White still very hot,, touch the hot end of the match to the tick, and it will back out. If you pull a tick out, it may break off the head in there, and can cause infection, then you have to go to the vet anyway.
cut the hair around it and burn the tick!!
Actually I've heard to put vaseline on the tick. Then, it won't be able to breathe because it is so viscous, so it may come out by itself. If it doesn't, I usually just part the fur around the tick on my cats when they get one and pull it out with tweezers. That doesn't guarantee that the head will come out though, so I recommend trying the vaseline first.
oil works
