I just posted a question(Do you think its wright or wrong to do this?) I agree with some of you. If your going to spay, spay it before its pregnant. Not when it is already pregnant. I dont have a problem with spaying/nutoring but i do have a problem when people spay them when there pregnant.

Answers:

This practice only bothers me in certain situations. You really need to consider the context and reasons for spaying a cat while she's pregnant.

If an owner is irresponsible enough to let their unaltered cat run around outside, then yes, it's wrong for them to have her spayed only after she's become pregnant. This, to me, is much like not preparing your daughter for safe sex, then taking her in for an abortion after she gets pregnant.

There are, however, situations where this practice is ok. If a cat is going to have or HAS medical issues in terms of carrying the kittens, it would be best to end the pregnancy via a spaying procedure. Or in an instance where a cat gets pregnant REAL young, before the owners had the opportunity to take it in to be spayed. I've heard of this happening (a poster on here said her aunt's cats mated and the female was pregnant at 5 months of age..all because the vet advised waiting until they were both 6 months old to have them altered).

This IS a moral issue..but if a human mother were facing death while carrying her baby, I wouldn't be bothered if she had an abortion, either. I know a girl who just had to terminate her pregnancy because her unborn child was diagnosed with a rare condition in which part of the skull didn't develop. The baby was going to be born brain dead, then probably suffer for a few hours before dying. So in that case, I also consider it OK. Just like it's OK for some cats. There are too many unwanted pets in the world, anyway.
