Red pupils vs blue pupils2007-11-25 12:25:12

I've been told that when light gets through our pupils in a picture, they become red because we see the blood inside.! What about cats with glowing blue eyes!!??

It's not reflecting off the lens.

Most animals have a layer in the choroid (at the back of the eye, where all the blood vessels are) called the tapetum lucidum.this is made up of specialised cells that reflect light back onto the light-sensitive part of the retina. This means that the retina recieves more light, and provides better vision in low light conditions. It is the tapetum that glows when light is shone into an animal's eye.

Because humans don't have a tapetal layer, the light hits the choroid, causing red-eye on photos.

its the reflection of there lenses, its why they can see in darker places than us mere humans. its normal, dont worry about it. it kinda looks a bit evil though lol.
