SCARDY CAT How do you integrate 2 households into 1 when there are 4 dogs in 1 and 1 SCARED CAT
.in the other?? My boyfriend and I are getting married soon. We have 4 dogs and 1 cat living in my (current) home, and 1 SCARED cat living with him. The one and only time I took the 3 dogs to "visit" at his house, (the 4th dog is a recent addition) not only did his cat hide the entire time we were there, but it also wouldn't come out to eat, drink, or do anything for about 5 days afterwards!
Since the 4 dogs, my cat and his cat will all be under the same roof in the very near future - how do we "introduce" them and blend our "families" to avoid his cat "FREAKING OUT" again, and not eating or drinking for nearly a week??
HELP?!?!?!?
Answers:you need to get the two cats to be buddies first and then the new cat will see the social interaction between the dogs and the other cat. And don't worry about the cat hiding and not eating. He will come out and eat when he is hungry. We have a dog and two cats and the dog thinks the cats belong to her. The newer cat had issues at first but warmed up to the dog in a couple of weeks.
There is this stuff called Feliway and it is like a plug in air freshener for a cat. It emits soemthing that mimics the cats pheromones so they they think everything is marked as their territory. When the dogs come they are taking over her territory and their scent probably lingered for that long. I used this stuff when I first got my cat, he hid behind the chair for a month and the vet recommended Feliway. Two days after I plugged it in he came out.
I have two dogs and three cats. The oldest cat "allows" the dogs to live here, the next young used to wrestle with them but now prefers lizards and birds, but the youngest one plays, eats, and sleeps with both dogs. They will all assimilate on their own terms. Give it time. Put some food, water, and a box in its own little area for a while.
