Scratching the furniture

Scratching the furniture2007-11-25 12:25:17

Do some cats not scratch furniture, or doors or anything? because I have a seven week old kitten, and she hasn't scratched anything yet, and I was wondering if in the future she might, Also I recent clipped her nails.

Answers:

I have two cats and the only thing that they have scratched that they shouldn't is our bed and that is for attention. we have come up with a solution for that. they have never scratched our furnature or anything that they shouldn't they are 15 months old. Keep up your good work. you have some great cats. you have done well for yourself!

my cat from the date of birth didn't scratch till now
I think cats scratch things because their bored and I think that you shouldn't worry abut it now but in the future yes you should clip her nails and get her a scratching post or something.
That's the key word."yet"

Get a scratching post and gently rub her claws on it

Do this for a few days for a minute or so each time

After that when she gets the urge to scratch she'll do it in the right place (trust me this works)

1. They are bored.

2. Marking their territory by claw mark.

3. Sharpening or blunting their claws (can never remember which it is, gomen!).

eventually the cat will attempt to scratch at something its cause you just trimed the nails. but believe me it will. try a scratching post. And another thing I<m sure it will I had a cat and it was declawed and it still attepted to scratch . But dont declaw if you plan on letting it be an outdoor cat because that is the way they defend themselves.
Don't clip your cats nails. They scratch things in order to sharpen their nails and when you clip the nails they just feel the need even more to sharpen them, so they scratch more. Don't have them declawed either. If your cat goes outdoors, they will generally sharpen their claws on trees and stuff. If it is an indoor cat, it needs a scratching post. If it starts to scratch things it shouldn't practice a little discipline on it by spraying it with a water bottle or shaking a loud newspaper at it every time it does the bad behavior. Cats are smart and they'll figure it out.
