Separation anxiety

Separation anxiety2007-11-25 12:25:18

Ok my cat is 2 and 1/2 yrs old we did have another cat that he grew up with but then she passed away about a year ago, and since then my male (2 and 1/2 yr old) has not really been itching to where I caught him doing it but he's loosing his fur and has scabs all over him, I have given him iodine baths, regular baths, frontlined him (he has no fleas), sprayed hydrocordozone spray on him. The hydrocordozone works to where they mostly clear up and he gets his fur back but then all of a sudden he loses his fur again. Any one have any suggestions on what to do for him? I thought it was his cat food and tried different things with him, he won't eat wet food, and every kind of dry food I tried he won't eat it unless it's Meow Mix. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Could this be separation anxiety? When my husband or myself come home he's all over us and won't leave us alone.

Answers:

I do believe cats grieve, and that separation anxiety can aggravate a lot of physical problems, but it sounds like this is a physical problem that hasn't been properly diagnosed and treated accordingly.

Is there a chance this kitty has picked up sarcoptic mange, from another creature or infected dirt or bedding? It only responds to certain medication. They can also get it again and again if there's a contaminated area you aren't aware of. Mange mites breed, then the babies breed, and the cycle goes on and on. Mange and fleas are nasty little critters, but different, so just because he doesn't have fleas doesn't mean the mange mites aren't eating him up.
