Serious question this time My kittens keep eating the adult cat food Is this bad for them2007-11-25 12:25:18

I shoo them away each time but I would estimate that 1/5 of their diet is grown-up food not kitten food.

I could switch the older cats back to ktten food they are only 11 months old.

Answers:

Won't hurt them at all. My kitten did the same thing, it was pretty impossible for me to keep them apart. The vet said that was fine. Make sure it's a good brand like Iams or Eukanuba

I've been told that the only difference between the two cat foods is that the kitten food has more protien in it to help them grow. It really isn't harmful for them, but idealy they should only be eating the kitten food.

All cats are kittens until they are 12 months (at least) a mom (new kittens still nursing an at least a month after ) should be on Kitten food (it has extra vitamins an minerals as well as the extra calories that they need

Try to make the kittens eat their kitten food as it has vital nutrients and minerals to help the grow up strong and healthy. As for the older Cats eating kitten food, it will not hurt them but if they eat to much it could cause they to gain a lot of weight.

It isn't necessarily bad but it can lead to diet deficiencies. Kitten food is formulated to give extra calcium and anti-oxidants for growing bodies. Switching the older cats back is not wise either as they need the nutrients in the adult food. If it is only 1/5 of your kittens' diets then I would not be terribly concerned. Just make sure that they are still eating mostly kitten food.

just feed them chicken and milk and occasionally meat and fish , homecooked cat food is alot cheeper , and lunchon chicken meat ,but ya u should feed kitten kitty food and u can make them like it if you buy that cat gravey you put on food my cat loved the gravey if you put the gravey on the food grantee they will eat it.
