Should I adopt a cat now
I live by myself, my family lives in another city, and I would love to adopt a cat, I even met the "cat of my dreams" in an animal shelter where i volunteer, and it breaks my heart to see him there week after week just because he is FIV+.
But I'm not sure if I should adopt, my boyfriend says he doesn't like cats, my family lives far away, and I only started working a few months ago, it's a demanding job, some days i only arrive home at 9 or 10 p.m. And sometimes I have to be away for the weekend..
I'm 23 and I know that probably my life will go through a lot of changes in the next few years.
Is it too soon to take the responsability to adopt a cat?
Answers:If you know that you will always be there for the cat and that these changes will not mean dumping the cat, then you could be the perfect home for this kitty. My husband did not particularly like cats when we met, and he's still not a great fan, but he dealt with them (and continues to) because he loves me. And he didn't want to be the type that says "me or the cats" because he knew that it's an unfair ultimatum.
When I was in college, I attended full time and worked nearly full time. There were days that I only saw my cats a few hours a day. Enough to feed them in the morning and then again late at night. Luckily, as you know, cats don't usually require constant attention and constant supervision. If you can provide love and attention in the time that you *do* have, then he'll be perfectly happy with that.
