Should i get another cat so my recent one doesnt get lonely have someone to play with Are they messy2007-11-25 12:25:19

My cat is 6 months old, I'm not home all day so i wanted to get my cat a companion so she could play with. I saw some kittens behind my grandmas house and wanted to take one so they can play together but i dont know. My cat is really friendly and very comfortable with people but if i get a new kitten im scared she'll back away from human contact or even being so affection.

If you want to do it, now is probably the time. If a cat becomes too used to being "king of the castle," introducing a new kitty can be difficult. If you do bring in a new kitten, please have a vet look it over first so that you don't bring any unwanted diseases or problems to your cat.

I don't think your cat will stop being affectionate towards you or other people. Having a buddy would just be a bonus for her. Cats that aren't wild generally love human attention, especially that of their owners.

Multiple indoor cats do mean more litter boxes, and more to scoop out. Plus, more cat hair to deal with. But if you love cats and can deal with their individual temperaments, having a couple isn't really that big of a problem.

I did the same thing for my cat he was a boy and i got a boy stray kitten that i took to the vet before bringing him home. As long as both cats are spayed/neutered then they shouldnt have that much of a problem sharing territory especially since they're so young. In the end both cats are still happily living together and are good playmates.

I watch my two enjoy each other. They'll play together, eat out of the same dish at the same time and sleep together.

first of all cats are loners already. but a 6 month old will get over being lonely quick. they are easy to care for if you get them fixed. males will spray the furniture if you don't

Getting your kitty a "friend" is a good idea if he/she doesn't have anything to do all day (saves them from boredom and destroying your house). However there are some stipulations. If you do not neuter/spay and you pick an opposite sex, they could have kittens. You have to be prepared to take responsibility after them. Also if you do not neuter/spay and you pick a cat of the same sex, they could fight or be dominant towards each other. Cats react differently to "friends," you have to judge your own cat and determine whether or not it wants attention from people or not. Hope I could help.

It's best to get two cats at the same time or just a companion. They are like children, leave one alone in your house and it will be trashed when you come home. A companion will make a great playmate and leave your personal items alone.

its probably a good idea. they can keep each other company & not tear up your belongings. just make sure the new kitty isnt sick before you bring it home or it could make your other cat sick too. good luck oh & i have 6 new, very cute kittens if anyone wants one :-)

I would be very careful bringing in another kitty. First of all, if these are wild kitties, you don't know if they're sick or anything. They shouldn't be taken away from their mommy too soon either.
