Siamese Cat behavior question
I am going away for 9 days and am leaving my cat at home with my husband's mother to take care of. The problem is that he has long hair and needs brushed, and I am the only one he will let do it. When my husband's mother tries he looks at her and hisses. He won't even let her or anyone else pick him up. Why is he being like this towards other poeple (and sometimes bitiing as well)?? What can we do in the next week to make him like others and not be so attached to me? he is 3 years old.
Answers:First of all, if he's long haired, he's most likely not a Siamese, but a Himalayan or not full blooded.
Siamese tend to like only one person, so if he doesn't know your mother-in-law well, he may adjust to her while you are gone. Tell her to buy some kitty treats and give them to him til he learns to trust her. She can also try to brush him while he is sleeping.
both my Siamese love everyone and I've never had problems with them adjusting to other people. If she can't brush him, don't force t. Most long haired cats will groom themselves ok. give him a good bath with conditioner before you go and when you get back. Use detangler if you need to, he should be ok.
CAt trust is very slow in coming. Perhaps if you mother just sits next to the cat.
The best you may be able to get it the cat being fed and that's it
You can't change a Siamese cat's behavior in so short a time. He will be fine while you're away if he's fed, watered, and has the litter changed. He may look a little scruffy when you get back, but a good brushing will fix that. I've had several Siamese cats and they are very much a one person pet.
I agree with the others - give up on the idea to have him brushed regularly while you're away. He may have tangles and so on when you get back, but at least your mother in law will be scratch free!
