Side effects of cats laser toy2007-11-25 12:25:55

I bought a laser pointer toy for my cat.. He played with it for a minute and he lost site of it laid down and started panting like a dog with his tongue curled. He has many other toys and nothing has ever caused him to act like this. Think its a side effect of the laser or something?

Don't know but one of my cats does the same thing. the other one of my cats just sits like a dummy and ignores it.

Unless you were shining it in the cats eyes I doubt it is an effect of the laser.

You probably just made the cat get some GOOD exercise.

It is not a side effect directly, your cat was probably tired and a little overheated. Cats will pant when they get overexerted and overheated just llike dogs.

My cats love laser light toys and I do not have that problem with them at all. Could it be that the light had shined on his eyes.. or he looked directly into the laser?? causing irritation to him??

Short of your cat not liking the toy cause he can't actually grab it there isn't much of a side effect. Obviously don't shine it in his eyes at all, as there is still a theory that it will burn the retinas making him blind.

It took me forever to make my cat like the laser pointer I have. He still gets irritated by the fact that he can't grab it and I have to point it at the ground close to where he is otherwise he's not going to play with it. Keep trying with your cat (as I did with mine) and he will play with it.
