I have a kitten that is roughly 5 months old. The problem that I am having is that when he goes to the bathroom, it smells really bad and stinks up part of the house. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop this or make it so its not as bad?
Answers:We use Fresh Step and I clean it out every other day, or right away if the poo is really smelly. He's not burying his poo properly, is the real problem and they don't learn how to do that so well until they are older, especially boy cats for some reason. So, if you are home when he makes his smelly poo, scoop it out or bury it for him. Or you can just put a cork in his butt.
what type of food are you feeding him? My cousin just had a kitten and the same thing. I think kittens are like babies their crap smells worse.
Well, poop being what it is, it's going to stink. But if it smells particularly bad, maybe check his diet by a veterinarian? Some foods (esp dairy) can make a puss toot often and strongly. Good luck!
Put baking soda into the litter box. That will kill the odor.
Feed him dry food.
Use clumpable litter and scoop daily.
Good luck. I had a cat that smelled bad.WHEEW! I put her outside.
What kind of litter do you use? You should use the hard-clumping kind, and then scoop it out daily (or even right after he goes). Also, they sell powders near the kitty litter section in most pet stores that help reduce the odor in combination with the litter. For example, Arm & Hammer makes a type that includes baking soda, to help reduce the smell.
Leave it outside where it belongs!
Don't give him milk. It tends to upset most cats stomachs causing very stinky poop.
It is all common with cats. You may want to clean out their cat box each single day and change their diet to a indoor formula ( if your kitty will be indoors) or check with your veterinarian.
