What breed is my kitten please help me
My kitten is white with black spots, a black fluffy tail and fluffy in certain parts of his body. Please help me figure out what breed is he?
Answers:Like most cats without a pedigree, he's likely a mixed breed. Depending on the length of his fur, he's called a domestic short/medium/long hair, or, in England, a "moggie". The black and white fur is very common for such cats.
Unlike with dogs, mixed-breed cats are a very large percentage of the total cat population.
Most mixed cats don't have any purebred ancestry; but it is possible that he has some sort of purebred in his family tree. If it's more than a generation or two back, it's probably impossible to tell.
The best indicators of purebred ancestry in a cat are any features that most mixed-breeds don't have--features that may come from purebred cats which are bred for those things.
This is the cat fanciers' association web site:
http://www.cfainc.org/breeds.html.
Halfway down the page is a link to a "breed slideshow". This should open as a pop-up and display examples of the typical "look" of each breed. (The link to the next picture is on the lower right hand part of the window--I had trouble finding it.)
Check for fur configuration and color, body shape and size, face shape, tail length, etc. and try to see if any of that matches your kitten. Anything that is unique to a breed of cat and also to your kitten may indicate that he has some genetics from that breed.
