What can I buy to make my cat stop scrathing all the wood in the house2007-11-25 12:26:41

She is 2 and I don't wan't to get her declawed for the simple reason I have other pets and want her to be able to defend her self. I have a cardboard catnip scracthing thing that just lies on the floor but her only interest in that is to roll on it and smell the catnip she has no interest in scratching that she only wants to scratch ALL the door frames in the house. Any help would be nice she is tearing up my doorways!

As for saving your house, have you tried the carpeted scratching posts? This might sound silly, but have you tried showing her how to scratch on the carboard catnip thing? We have one of those for our cat, and she did the same thing for the longest time. She would then go attack my couch. So one day I took her and held her paws gently, and actually, physically took her through the motions of scratching the cardboard. It was like she had simply just not thought to do that.(my cat isn't overly bright.)

But if that doesn't work, try the carpet covered ones. If she doesn't like the carpet and seems to remain partial to the wood, try getting a wood post just for her to scratch. Just make sure she understands that that post is hers and that's she's to leave the door frames alone.

Also, invest in a small spray bottle. Every time you catch her scratching the door frames, give her a good squirt. She'll eventually learn.

she must like the feel of the wood, rather than her cardboard post. get her a wooden scratching post. they have some that look like a tree trunk nailed to a piece of wood. maybe she'd like that.

Get a dog, that'll take care of the cat scratching all over, as well as all your other problems with a cat. Cats suck @$$.
