What can I do , my kitten till does this All advice2007-11-25 12:26:41

He till likes to suck on my ear and neck . What should I do . I tryed putting him next to the stuff anmails . But he comes over to me. Why does he do this . Is he unhappy. Please no rude cruel ideas . He only does this at night.

it is like he is suckling for milk on his mother - it is a comfort thing, nothing more than that. it is a very trusting thing for him to do to you - so it is not a bad thing at all. it is like he is bonding with you in a way he could only do with his mother.

We also have a cat that nurses our ears. Apparently she was weaned too soon or weaned incorrectly. "Wool sucking" as it's called is a comfort thing, if your cat didn't like you, he would pick someone else to attach to. To stop him, you just have to repeatedly pull him away from your ear and say in a firm loud voice, "NO EARS," and pull him away and love on him. He may not break this at all, but it's a sign that he sees you as 'mommy.' I really don't mind it, but my Izzy has teeth now,and she gets my neck all sloppy. My vet said that this doesn't do any damage to the cat, but is a habit that needs to be broken for the human's sake. You could also try weaning him from your ear, let him nurse a few minutes, then stop him and love on him. Wool sucking is very common.

He is doing it for comfort. How old was he when he was taken from his mum? Sounds as if it could have been a little early.
