What can be done about a whiney cat2007-11-25 12:26:40

My son's cat whines ALL the time. Short of getting rid of the cat, any ideas to get it to chill out?

Answers:

Could be that it's having some separation anxiety issues. How long have you had the cat? When did the whining start? Are you sure it's not in heat? Try giving it attention and see if that helps, sometimes they just need to be assured that they're wanted.

Is the cat spayed/neutered? If not that may help, Also there could possibly be something medically wrong with the cat, I would get the cat a complete physical. These would be the most typical reason a cat would "whine"

If it's an unspayed female it is likey she is in heat if the whining is non-stop 24/7 regardless of any attention. Short of that, sorry. that's just her personality.

What do you mean? My cat "whines" constantly. Only I call it talks. She's Siamese and that's a part of her breed. Very sociable and likes to converse and give her opinion. I'm not kidding. The cat may be part siamese. If you can't stand it "whining" as you call it then perhaps it would be a good idea to find another home for it where people will enjoy it's company..

Well, this can be taken two ways. First, he's trying to tell his people something. Cats seldom whine/meow to each other it's their way of communicating with us (the caregivers/people). Is he trying to tell you something? Does he want something? Maybe he's trying to climb on something and needs a better path or help. My cat is very vocal, he's a Cornish Rex. but from my breed research I knew what I was getting into. Does you cat come from talkative parents and/or does the cat have talkative siblings?

Second, the cat could be not feeling well. I could be a vet issue. Discomfort would be relayed to people vocally as well. Oh-- also, if the cat is fine often veterinarians do know of good adoptive homes for older cats. Good luck!

When your son was little and whined alot, what did you do! You fed him and talked to him. Same goes to Cats as well. They want attention - give it to them.
