What do you think of my cats habit2007-11-25 12:28:10

my cat is 2 years old and he learned to open up my kitchen drawers and he pulls plastic bags out of them and sleeps in them. once he wakes up he normally shreds them but on occasion he walks out into the living room with a bag attached to him. the handles are around his neck. now he seems to really love it but should i get a child lock and put it on the drawers to keep him from getting the bags?

Answers:

There is definitely the option of getting the child lock for the door. However, some cats are clever enough to figure that out too! I'd also make sure that you're cutting the handles of the plastic bags so they don't get caught around your kitty's neck anymore. Please DO NOT spray and yell at your cat when you find him laying on the bags. This technique only works if you catch your kitty in the act of getting into the cupboard. Otherwise your kitty may just confused and start rebelling at your odd behavior (which is how it would seem to your kitty). Good luck!

Hello Mr. Potato head
I'm afraid your cat is mentally deficient. Did you happen to drop him on his head when he was a kitten?
I would be concerned that the bags just might cause her to choke and suffocate herself. Keep her away from plastic bags around her neck.
Yes
I would get child locks to put on the cabinet drawers. The bags could suffocate him.
you should lock your drawers so that your cat can't get them..maybe one day, he'll start eating them..that's a more bigger problem..
yes, u should. keep them out of reach for him. Or use water bottle on him. should he do it again, spray him and raise ur voice on him, so he knows he shouldnt do it again!
Too funny! Try to get a video of him; you might win some $$$$$. And by all means get child locks because he might smother.
I think it's very cute, but yes there is always a chance of him hurting himself. Get a brown paper grocery sack or box for him to play in. I had a cat once that would run full speed into a tipped-over sack and go sliding across the floor. It was hilarious! My Siamese I have now has a blast with a bread tie when I drop it on the floor, or just wad up a piece of paper. She doesn't play with her cat toys at all!
ur cat like the temperature and texture of plastic. he likes to play with it.if u dont want him to play with the bags, yes by all means lock it and deprive him of the only toy u can provide.LOL
I couldnt come home from the grocery store without putting a bag on the floor for my girl. I have several pictures of her just sitting straight up in the middle like she was a bag of potato chips. Try the paper ones too. Most pet supply shops carry a sack that makes the crinkly sound for the cats that like plastic bags. If you think your cat is bad.you should see what ferrets do..
Hi there.although this is so cute, my concern would be the dangers involving accidental injuries (internally as well as externally), which I sense you also wonder about. Would you consider taking a moment to read a few web articles I'm listing to learn more: http://www.natureofanimals.com/plasticba.
