What is a good home remedy for ear mites in my cat2007-11-25 12:27:46

you need to take the cat to a vet. First of all, it might not be ear mites. Secondly, ear mites can really damage your cats hearing if not treated properly.

I thought my kitty had ear mites and I gave it an over the counter med, he kept digging and digging and was drawing blood. So I took him to the vet, turns out it was just a serious skin allergy and he had to have benedryl shots every month.

You can help relieve the itch by first cleaning your cats ears. Take a nice soft cotton swab (no q-tips) and put hydrogin peroxide on it. Gently rub the inside of the ears. Your cats ears should look clean, if they are black and gunky then they must be cleaned. You can take some cortozone or anti itch cream and apply a thin layer on his ears, this will relieve some itching.

But the best way to get rid of anything is to go to the vet. If you need help paying for medication, go to a shelter and ask if they can help. They usually carry meds for the cats that come in.

Shaklee.net or .com.they have a natural cleanig solution called Basic-H. That is safe for children and pets. I gave my dog a bath in it for flees and got rid of them. It works the same as ear mites. Just put some on your finger and rub on the inside. As for home remedies.that's all I have used.

There is some over the counter stuff that has aloe in it. The vet also gave me a bottle to treat them. You treat, then treat again a week later. Try and get all the waxy gunk out of their ears as much as possible first so the medication actually can get to the root of the problem.

why dont you just call a vet. They will sell you medicine that you put in the cats ears and its not expensive.

put a crushed clove of garlic in some olive oil leave for a few hours drain and put a few drops in your cats ears.mites dont like garlic

Actually mineral oil works better. BUT, you need to clean the ears out DAILY for several weeks with Q-tips dipped into the mineral oil, then after the cleaning, put 1 drop of the oil BACK in the ear. It works, but takes time, It does not kill the mites, but suffocates them. Cleaning daily is the key. Otherwise, get a miticide.
