What is the difference between cat years & human years2007-11-25 12:28:04

I know the difference between dogs and humans is 7 years. Is it the same for cats and humans or is there a different number.

Answers:

The answer here is not as clear cut as it is with dogs. As a rule of thumb, you could say 4-6 years after the first year.

It's not the same as dog years. The first six months of a cat's life equals 13 of our years.the second six months equals 8 years.the second year equals 10 human years and each year after that equals 3 human years. So, if your cat is 10 cat years, he's/she's 55 in human years.

This is the way I've heard it explained:

The first year of a cat's life brings it to the equivalent of a young adult - 25 years. After that, every year of the cat's life is roughly equivalent to 5 years of a human's life. Thus, a 10-year-old cat is equivalent to 25 + (10 - 1) x 5 = 70 human years.
