What should I know about neutering for a kitten
I'm getting my kitten 6 months old neutered end of October. How long will it take? Does he have to be in overnight? What is the recuperation for him? Will it change his personality? And any other comments would be appreciated.
Answers:your cat should be ready that day or next day.
He will be sore and sleepy. You may want to keep him comfortable and let him relax by keeping him away from the other pets.( if you have any) . if that causes excitement. Try and keep him calm.
He will be sore. He may need to wear an E Collar (elizabethan collar) to keep him from licking. Make sure you keep it on him as silly as it looks it keeps the area clean and free from licking.
He will probably take some sort of anitibiotic to keep him free from infection.
If you notice any severe swelling, bleeding, vomit or diarrea contact your vet immediately. Also ask your vet about normal behavior and what to expect.
Your cats personality shouldnt change too much. He is young and it isnt really that developed yet. You m,ay notice he isnt frisky as he is sore but he will imporve and he wil be back to normal in no time. Re couperation is a few days to a week.
Follow all the vets directions..
Thank you for having your pet neutered.. you did the right thing and animal control and spca thanks you.
It takes a vet less than 30 minutes for the procedure. We just took our 10 month old this morning, and I was called immediately after the surgery to let me know she was ok. Neutering is a little less invasive, therefore an overnight visit may not be neccessary. It depends on the vet, really. He should be back to his old self in less than 48 hours. His personality may be a little less "wild," but it's worth it! They'll live a lot longer! Good Luck to kitty!
It won't change a kitten's personality at that age (but will if the process is done later). In fact, it will keep him from having his personality changed (and emotionally effected) later in life. The actual process takes very little time. He will limps for a day or two, and will licks the area during that time and sleep a lot, but after two days or so, most cats will be totally recuperated. They're strong little creatures.
neutering a male cat usually does not require an overnight stay. Recovery depends, to some degree, on the personality of the cat. I have seen some cats milk it for all its worth because they are getting lots of extra attention but most cats rebound really quickly once the grogginess from the anesthesia wears off.
Not to worry!!
