What to do with my cat2007-11-25 12:28:56

If you don't want another animal, don't get one. There is no law that says you have to have more than one pet.

If you don't want him, see if someone will take him. Put flyers up at schools, veterinarians, groomers and churches. Just make sure that the little guy is going to a good home.

well at 11 yrs. it's hardly a baby. it's very old infact. and it's quite use to you. i suggest you just get into the routine of feeding it once a day and changing it's litter as often as possible. you seem to have a soft spot for it, so just go with it. if you dont want it to be lonely when you're out and about then i suggest you get another kitty (no older than 5mos.) so that the older cat can be a "Momma" or papa cat. then they will depend on each other. you'll be feeding one cat, why not two. good luck. and if you are determined to get rid of it, then keep looking for someone. perhaps placing an ad in the retirement community near you. senior citizens loooooooove pets.
Please don't kill the cat. You coud find a home for it or take it to your nearest pet rescue. There are shelters who take unwanted pets and will find good homes for them.
Do you have any siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, etc. that would like a cat? If you can't find anybody to take him, try to bond with him. Play with him, become his buddy. In a last resort, give him to the local S.P.C.A. Good luck! Meow!
A cat this age might get sick or die from any major changes now. If you've taken good care all this time just keep doing it.
Your odds of finding a home for an 11 year old cat are very slim. Unfortunately people want "kittens", not adult cats. If the situation is one where you can no longer keep the cat, please take it to the ASPCA where they will humanely euthanize the animal in a few days if it is not adopted. Or try to find a no kill shelter in your area that will accept her/him. Usually there is a waiting list for those shelters. If at all possible keep the cat, to avoid the trauma and stress it would be under by being homeless at that age. Best wishes to you and good luck.
Please please do not put this cat in a shelter or give it away. It's known & loved you all that time. Taking a cat of that age out of the only home it's ever known would be cruel. It would never be adopted, and would likely fall into a depression, even die. How dependant can it be on you? You only have to feed & water it, change the litter box, and that's it. That's maybe 30 minutes out of your week. And just think of the company you'll lose. Just having a cat around when you're feeling a little low can be a tremendous help. Please reconsider. To put her out now would be a death sentence.
