An american shorthair is an actual breed of cat. A DOMESTIC shorthair is what cats of mixed breed are refered to as.

an American Shorthair is the best kind. We have one and If it starts shedding we have theese shedding wipes.
You can find lots of domestic short hairs at shelters. Black and white (tuxedo) are always cute! They're not "breeds" more like mutts, but occasionally you do find purebreds at shelters, like Siamese or Persians.
i don't know of any kind of cat that will be fine on its own for eight hours, definitly not an american shorthair,or Oriental type of cat(ie Siamese abyssinian ocicat etc)
