What would a calico female get along with2007-11-25 12:29:40

I want to get another cat? What kind should he/she be? What gender? How should I introduce them?

Kicha, my cat, thinks she's the Queen of our house and the only animal she's gotten along with was my dog, but my grandma took our dog eight months ago, so Kicha's not used to any other pet.

If she's a queenie, I definitely wouldn't reccomend getting another female.

The easiest combinations are as follows (from easiest to hardest): Male and female, male and male, female and female.

Generally, female cats can be a bit combative with each other because..well, because they're queens! Lol. And since your female has already established herself as the dominant queen of your household, I strongly recommend getting a male. And if she's REALLY picky about the other animals in her home, I'd further suggest a young male. Perferrably under a year old. Adult cats tend to tolerate kittens a bit more than adults since they know they're just kids.

Just make sure your female has a place to retreat to where the other cat can't get to her. A younger, more active cat might irritate her, and unless she has an escape, she could lash out.

Monitor introductions when you bring your new cat home, and make sure they're separated when you're asleep or gone..just until you're sure they won't hurt each other.

Instead of going out looking for a kitten, why not bring IN the kitties and your Kicha make the choice. She like my Stimpy IS the queen of the house.

Tortoiseshell cats (and that is probably what she is, a true calicos are rarer) are notorious for their "tortitude". And the Queen will fight to maintain her position. Another female would not do well for this situation, although there are always exceptions to any "rule".
