What would cause a female cat to start urinating on the carpet after being litter box trained for 22007-11-25 12:29:41

She is in heat and meows nonstop 20 hours a day. She has been urinating all over the house, not just in one spot. I have scolded her, squirted her with the water bottle, I keep her litter box scooped out and tidy. She will get in her litter box and "throw" the litter, and any "contents" it may have in it, out on the floor. She has completely emptied her box and made a total mess out of the litter. This is daily. I am using the same litter I always have.

It may be a behavior caused by the heat, she is marking her territory (many female cats do this while in heat) I would get her spayed as soon as you can. This will stop her from doing this in the future (as well as yowling non-stop) it also adds years to your cats life and greatly lowers the risk of cancer and other illnesses.

Urinary Tract infections can also cause a cat to start urinating outside of the box.

she is going out of her mind wanting a male.if you get her spayed she will make a better pet,or if you dont she will tear everything up and you wont be very happy.

I agree with Nikki - you need to get her spayed unless you are keeping her for breeding.

As a rule, cats are fairly clean animals and dont like to urinate in lots of different places so i would suggest a trip to the vet if she is displaying behaviour like that - it cant hurt to get it checked out!
