What would cause blood to run out of a cats mouth
I have a stray cat that comes around and I feed him regularly. In the last 2 weeks, I have noticed blood on his fur in various places. Now this morning when he came around he literally has blood dripping from his mouth and pooling where he sits. What would he have done to cause this?
Answers:He could have a massive infection in his mouth that is now eating away his flesh. Catch him and call the ASPCA or animal control. Even if he's put down, it's better for him as opposed to suffering out in the wild.
But remember, if you've been feeding him, he is technically & legally now your cat. You need to bring him to the vet ASAP. Congrats on adopting a cat. : )
Now, bring him inside and let him feel lucky to be rescued by a loving human! : ) :)
aww thats so sad i would cry

He could have lost a tooth and it's bleeding, or it could be from an internal injury. He may have been in a fight with another cat, or even hit by a car. You should try to get some help for the poor thing!
sounds like internal injury - should either capture the cat or notify local animal shelter for pickup
there may still be time to be treated or if not the most compassionate option for the cat is needed
thanks for caring!
Another posibility besides those already mentioned is oral cancer. I agree that getting this poor animal to the vet immediately is the best answer. If it is infection, injury or a bad tooth, that can be easily treated. If it is cancer, euthanasia may be the most humane option. Either way, it is best to get it in ASAP so it doesn't die of blood loss, septicemia or stop eating and die of starvation.
He may have an abscess in his mouth, or a tooth may have already fallen out. Animals' teeth are just as prone to infections as humans' mouths are. The difference is we go to the dentist and get the bad tooth extracted or have a root canal. So unless you wanna catch the lil stray amd take him to the vet, i would just watch him for a few days, if the actual bleeding persists it may be something far worse. If that is the case you may need to catch him or call animal control.
He must have been beat or ran over or attacted by some other animal. Usually blood out of the mouth is internal damage and in this cats case probably in different spots. If I were you I would try to capture the animal and put it on the step of the local vet or humane clinic so they can assess the animal and put it down if it is too bad or help him. Then I would watch the listings and consider adopting the animal. The other answers concidering the teeth are good possibilitys also. If that is the case though is it possible to touch the cat? If you can open his mouth and see if there are obvious signs where the teeth mabe damaged or where the blood is coming from.
Could you catch him and take him to the vets. Or a no kill shleter to have him treated?
If the blood is mixed with saliva, it is probably the Calici virus. My cat had it recently and we treated her with antibiotics. In any case, you should take him to the vet and have him checked out.
