Whats it mean if my cat has a dry nose2007-11-25 12:29:05

I had a person tell me once that a dry nose on a cat means that they are sick, or is this just an old wives tale? I dont know if i should take him to the vet or not. Or is it okay and is just because he sleeps alot.Urgh.help please.and thanks.

Answers:

If your cat is eating, drinking, sleeping and using the litter box as usual, it's probably ok. Most cats do have dry noses, it's when the nose is wet and runny that you have a sick cat. If your cat's overall behavior has changed, or it's losing or gaining weight really fast, take it to the vet.

And if you are really concerned, take it to the vet anyway to make you feel better.

it is probably sick.just keep watching it and if it gets worse take it to the vet..most likely it just has a cold!

I had a cat with a very bad earmite infection. His nose was desert dry. As soon as he got his ear drops in he got his "normal" cold/wet nose back after 2 days.

It can mean he is sick. Is he showing any other signs besides napping alot? Is he eating good, drinking water, playing, normal pee-pee and poo-poo?

Sometimes the cat needs more water in their diet.

If it continues PLEASE go to the vet.

99% of the time it does NOT mean the cat is sick. I've only had one dog and so I can only guess that it might be more normal for a dog to have a cold or wet nose. But I took an online vet assistant class last year and the instructor said wet noses are just wet, dry are just dry. Normally, no particular reason.
