I find the new crystal litter to be better than all the other clumping clay types. It's cleaner, doesn't track nor clump and doesn't have an odor. It does cost more than the other brands but well worth the price. I used Wal*Mart brand and it's $7.94 but don't let the price fool you. For one cat, it can last up to thirty days. I have two cats and change it every 10 days or so, but scoop it out several times a day. The crystals absorb the urine. You just swish it around with the scoop.

I have two favorite kinds myself. 1.) mimi litter which is a silica sand type I purchased at walmart 2.) fresh step with activated carbon.

The clumping kind if you don't mind scooping litter every day. Keeps the pan cleaner.

Wood pellets because they are biodegradable.

No scooping required, just dog a hole and dump the litter into the hole, then bury.

I use Tidy Cats Small Spaces, Tidy Cats Crystals, and Tidy Cats Crystals Blend..the blend is a "new" formula that claims it won't crumble..we shall see. But I stick with Tidy Cats..after having bad experiences with both Arm & Hammer and Swheat Scoop.
