Whats the best way to deodorize a cats room2007-11-25 12:29:10

We've just bought two 3 month old, kittens and the spare bedroom where they now live smells of the cat food. The litter tray doesn't seem too bad, apart from when you pick up the poo. What are the best products to use?

Also, does anyone know of any good devices of storing cat poo, making it easier than having to put in a bag and take it out to the garbage every time?

We bought a self distributing dry food feeder. Is it bad for the cat to have a supply of food permanently available or should you put food out at specific intervals?

Also, how often should you change the water in a self distributing water dispenser? After 2 days it's already bubbled up and looks old to me, but the kittens are still drinking it.

Answers:

First of all, does your room have carpet. Every morning when i check the water and food dish I Febreze the carpet. Couple of sprays helps. The odor is most likely to stay in the carpet than anywhere else, so a little bit of something on the carpet really helps the smell.

A good way to store the cat poo. Buy the large snap containers of cat litter. When it is done, throw it in their and put the lid back on. This is only good for leaving it in for a few days at a time, but bag it up and throw it in there, put the lid back on. It should keep it "fresh" so you can take it out once a week or so while still keeping the box clean on a daily basis.

Next question. Cat food. Just watch the cat, if it seems to clean the bowl more often than you think it should or you notice it gaining weight, limit its food availability. But most cats are self feeders, they know when to stop. As for the water, if you have a self waterer, just watch it and make sure it doesn't start growing mold, or something but you shouldn't need to change it daily. I never have and my cat is fine!

I put fresh food for my cat everyday. I change his water when he looks at it and then looks at me. He likes to drink water from the drain or the pipe if i leave it half open.
