Whats the efficient way to kill rats Will cats work
We have several rats in the attic. We tried rat traps and pioson, but none seem to work. Now we want to try cats.
Answers:It depends on whether you really mean rats or if you just categorize all rodents as rats. Rats are really big and can be dangerous. If you have put poison out do not use a cat as they may get into the poison as well. Even though I have two cats one of which is a great mouser I go ahead and set traps baited with peanut butter. Of course get the correct size traps for your problem. After you use a trap 3 - 4 times either disinfect it or use new ones because the rat/mouse will smell the blood and won't go near it. We life in a rural area and we have field mice that come in during certain weather conditions. I promise you traps with pb work. One more thing to consider. Have you actually seen rats/mice? Sometimes squirrels will make their home in an attic as will bats and other small critters that can find a way in. All in all, your best bet might just be calling in a pest control expert. Do not try to remove squirrels or bats by yourself. They can easily pass rabies and other diseases on to you.

By the way, cats are a big responsibility. Please do not get one just to control your pest problem. They are extremely intellegent creatures and need and deserve love, care and committment and should not just be used and thrown away!
Cats aren't normally able to kill full-grown rats: they can be huge. I'd be more inclined to get a small terrier-type dog like a Jack Russell, as they are bred for this sort of thing.
Yes,the cats will work,but understand after you used the poison,if the cat eats the rat,it will be poisoned too. But most of the time,they will just kill it and bring it to you.
dont do cats! Please just call the local shelter of animal service sothey can profestionally take them out. PLEASE! DONT MAKE CATS EAT THEM!! PLEASE!!
