Whats wrong with my cat2007-11-25 12:30:00

My cat seems to have lost her voice, and when she purrs, she makes a strange head movement, like she's choking a little, and licks her mouth. Wondering if she has something stuck in her throat.? She can eat, though. Seems fine otherwise. She kills and eats birds, so am worried about bones in her throat. Am taking her to vet later today (only 5am now), but thought I'd check here first. Thanks.

She needs treatment for "hairballs" My cats and my dog do it all the time. The dog does it b/c he licks on my cats.

Dont waste money at the vet. Go to Dollar General it you have one and buy the treatment there. If not go to Walmart

Sounds as if you're on the right track, have you tried looking in your cats mouth? Lose of voice is could be an indication of an obstruction, but could be caused by several other things. The signs of distress are a concern. I think you are making the correct choice getting her to the vet.

It definitely sounds like she has hairballs. But you'll feel better when you take her to vet because you'll be 100% positive on what the problem is. They'll give you the proper treatment and your cat should be all better in no time. I wish her well.

take to VET! it could be something more serios than a hairball! We had a cat that got hairballs all the time and had o have them removed by vet. Also, don't let her eat birds! There's West Niles out there and Bird Flu and all kinds of nasty things your cat can catch! Make sure you tell vet about the bird eating.

Could be many things. Even a sore throat cats do get those. Its best to go to the vets as you are doing. Hope its nothing serious. Don't feed the cat milk most cats do not tolerate milk.

She either has something stuck in her mouth or a bone in her throat like you said or she may have a infection in her throat. So your best bet is to take her to the vet.
