This will be my first winter with cats, so far (Oct) it gets as low as 59 inside, they are both short hair cats.
Answers:I would be incined to have the heat very low and not completely off as the temperatures start dropping to the freezing level and below outside.
I have some space heaters - not with a blower but internal heated oil circulation and the cats might be a room with something like that if you have a really bad cold snap.
yes they'll be fine, they can snuggle together for extra warmth
yes they will be fine
Im sure they will be fine but ask yourself this..would you want to spend an entire day in 59 degree tempature and not be able to do a damn thing about it?
Reguardless of short hair or long hair cats they are wearing 24-7 fur coats. have you ever worn a fur coat? they are hot! you cats will be okay. It would be different if you left your temp on at 120 degrees. But don't worry about your cats they probably love it being so cool.
they should be fine. if they get cold, more than likely will they find a warm spot in the sun to lay in. my cats have lived outside for 5 years and are still alive a kickin. don't worry about it.
I think you should turn on your heat and try to maintain a temperature of at least 70 degrees. Cats can get respiratory problems just like humans, and this low temperature is not very healthy for them.
We do the same thing w/our heat when we leave. I always leave a throw or a blanket out for my cat to snuggle into. She does that every winter. :-)
if its winter than you try to keep your cats warm. but keep your cats a lot of water. so it can be cool.
Yeah they have fur. So long as your house doesnt get to freezing, they should be ok if they have a couple of things; a place to lay in the bright sun and a warm blanket to curl up in. Trust me I had outside cats who were in the (Florida) cold and they would go under the house or up to the attic, it was open. They were fine.
Um..I'm thinking no. They can survive in those temperatures without succumbing to hypothermia, but here's the problem I have; 59 degrees is a bit chilly.any warm blooded creature would have to use a lot of energy to maintain homeostasis in such temperatures. So over time, it could wear the cats down a lot. Better to just turn your heat down a bit instead of completely off.
Yes, Cats have a full coat of fur and can go with out heat for some time. Farel cats always live in cold weather(depending on were they live).
As long as your house is above 40 degrees, your cats should be fine. They can find extra warmth in different places like on the snuggling together under the couch for extra warmth. Maybe set up a blanket with an entrance so they can get underneath it?
Yes it very much ok. I my self have 2 out door cats and it has been getting into the 30s and lower at night. I of course bring them into the basement when it gets below a certain point for those who think I dont love my cats. Cats as in most animals have a natural way of staying warm w/ all of the hair they have plus they can find the warm spots. If your worried about being to cold leave some old blankets for them to snuggle.
59 is kinda chilly for kittys , I always leave my place about 70-75* while i'm gone. Yes cats have fur coats , but they can get cold too !! Just put yourself in that place .. would you like to hang out in a house all day that is 59* ?
They might get cold unless they have a blanket to sleep under.
I am a cat person myself, they will be fine. Put a blanket on the floor for them and they will go to the blanket if they are cold.
I'm sure they'll be fine, but if they're older cats they may not regulate temperature as well, not generate as much warmth as they may need. I'd Reccommend buying a couple "Cuddlesafe" pet warmers, you heat them in the microwave for 5 min and they stay warm for hours and hours, especially if you put them in the blankets on the bed where the cats like to sleep, or under their cat beds. that way they can lie there in warmth till you come home, and still get up and cat around during the day. check them out. They're also wonderful to heat up your own feet when you come home in the snow.. they work awesome!
I wouldn't do that. October may be a cool month but it is getting really cold during the night and day, the other winter months are not going to be that way even during the day.
