When should I start giving my cat milk2007-11-25 12:30:11

Nearly everyone I know who has cats gives their cats normal milk. My kitten is 8 months old and I was wondering when would be the right time to start giving him milk?

Answers:

Cats cannot properly digest cow's milk. Milk is not necessary for a cat, it is just a nice treat. Most pet stores, like PetSmart or Petco, sell milk made specifically for cats. Use that instead and the both of you will be happier for it.

Cats don't need milk ever after they are weaned. I have one cat that likes to lap up some milk from the bottom of my cereal bowl.

That's not a daily occurence at all.

Milk really doesn't do much for cats as far as their nutrition is concerned. It can be a treat if they like it and it doesn't give them the runs.

Do not feed your cat cow's or goat's milk because it makes them sick. A majority of cats are lactose tolerant and cats have a very delicate stomach.
