When will my 6mth old kitten learn to climb fences2007-11-25 12:30:13

When I let him in the garden he just stays there.

Give him a while and he will be climbing anything he can.

When he's practised doing it about a million times and no longer falls off each time he tries it. Seriously - he'll do it in his own good time, so quit watching him, you are probably making him nervous ;)

When he wants to, he will learn to climb. Just enjoy this time as at least you know he is safe.

Around now! My cat's suprised me one day, because they both got some courage from no where and climbed up the fence, then the tree and then onto the neighbours roof, where they nearly ended up falling down the chimney!

Don't rush to get him climbing fences, because he'll soon be a typical Tom cat, who disappears off, and you'll wish he was that cute little kitten who was too scared to leave you.

It takes some time for them to learn ! Our cat managed to climb the fence from every angle by about a year. but they are all different, like children, learning at different speeds. he will have to go out with you perhaps to gain confidence. You could sit him onto the fence and help him along it and down. Good Luck !!

do you really want him climbing the fence? he will get out and get attacked by larger animals dogs etc.and also you really should consider leaving him indoors if he isn't spayed he will make alot of unwanted babies and he is susceptible to many diseases so please give it a second thought

My kitten is about the same age. Your kitten wil definitely start to climb fences, mine has just started climbing the curtains, just give it time

Consider yourself fortunate. Most kittens love to climb at a very early age. You must be doing something right for your kitten to stay where she is.
